Discovered at the end of our 2015 season, this site is quite simply awesome!
You could not imagine the raw beauty of this special spot which comprises a 12km ridge dropping down into pristine untouched alcoves & beaches that are only accessible by small boat. This is Sam Roi Yot as its very best, and we cannot wait to show more people this site in 2016. The SW facing ridge tops out at just over 300m, and is cut in half by a small fishing village - our launch location. The conditions are friendly and benign with smooth dynamic air coming straight off the ocean, mixing with thermals popping off the ridge and the village below. The orientation, size, and shape of the ridge means that it works throughout the thermal season, facing directly into the thermal wind direction. Once you are up above the village and onto the main ridge, there are consistent light thermals that take you to cloudbase.
We launch from the beach using our scootie-tow system. You are towed for a maximum of 1 minute, before detaching and flying straight onto a 60m ridge facing directly into the wind. From here, you bench up to 120m, and onto the main part of the ridge. This site is so friendly that in March 2015, two recently qualified pilots were able to soar here for 2 over hours on every occasion they flew here..
